In the early morning of October 1, 2026, seafood prices at the Noryangjin Fisheries Wholesale Market are fluctuating as the change of seasons is felt. Along with the final stages of summer seafood, autumn seafood, led by yellowtail, is beginning to appear in earnest.

Yellowtail Season Starts and Changes in Red Sea Bream and Japanese Jack Mackerel Volume

According to a FOODBOX video, the Noryangjin Fisheries Wholesale Market is currently at a turning point where the seasons are changing. The most noticeable change is the increase in yellowtail volume. A significant amount of yellowtail weighing around 2kg has started to come in, making them suitable for enjoying at a good value. In particular, large-sized yellowtail weighing around 2.8kg are also being observed. In the video, it was confirmed that 2kg-range yellowtail are being traded at around 32,000 won per 1kg.

On the other hand, the volume of amberjack is decreasing, while the volume of striped jack mackerel is increasing instead. Wild Japanese jack mackerel also have decent sizes and prices are remaining steady. Meanwhile, although the supply of farmed olive flounder increased after the holiday, prices actually showed an upward trend. In the case of red sea bream, while a large volume has arrived, it was reported on-site that B-grade red sea bream with one damaged eye have arrived at good value prices, making them sufficient to enjoy as sashimi. In retail market prices, value-oriented volumes were confirmed, such as B-grade red sea bream without one eye being sold at around 23,000 won per 1kg.

For other fish species, large amberjacks in the 6–10kg range have appeared, and prices have fallen slightly. Small sizes under 1kg are cheap, but prices are set high for those over 1kg. Additionally, well-grown blackthroat seaperch are available at decent prices, and while large volumes of striped jack mackerel weighing over 2.5kg have arrived, prices are set somewhat high.

Surge in Abalone Prices and Price Differences Between Blue Crab and Snow Crab

Among seafood items, abalone has shown a prominent price fluctuation. Following the holiday, the volume has been insufficient and coincided with the feeding period, causing abalone prices to rise significantly. According to retail market prices, the upward trend in abalone prices is distinct, so consumers may need to be cautious.

In the case of crustaceans, there are temperature differences depending on the item. King crab is maintaining a state where price fluctuations are not large as the volume decreased after the holiday. The value line is maintaining around 60,000 won, and the A-grade is around 90,000 won, and high price levels are expected to continue unless sufficient volume is secured. On the other hand, unlike king crab, snow crab has a certain level of volume supporting it, suggesting that prices may gradually decrease in the future. The value line is formed in the early 30,000 won range, and the A-grade is in the early 40,000 won range.

For blue crab, there is a large price difference depending on the volume, and currently, prices are high because the volume of large blue crabs is low. However, the condition of female blue crabs is good, sometimes containing roe, and male blue crabs, which are cheaper than female blue crabs, can also be an option. Choosing a medium size containing about 3 to 4 crabs may be more reasonable in terms of price than large crabs with low volume.

Seasonal Seafood Not to Miss and Precautions

One of the notable items currently at the Noryangjin market is herring. The video reported that herring sashimi is expected to be out of season soon, so consumers who want to taste it should hurry. Additionally, bigfin reef squid has started to arrive and is being supplied steadily, and as the yellowtail season begins in earnest, various single yellowtail or assorted sets from farmed yellowtail are being prepared.

Regarding other fresh fish and seafood prices, octopus is around 28,000 won per kilogram, and wild Jindo fish from Jindo, which is characterized by having no worms, is being traded at around 25,000 won per kilogram, which is somewhat more expensive than those from Incheon. In the case of brown croaker, products in the 2kg range have high demand, and well-grown blackthroat seaperch are also coming out at decent prices. For salmon, the price has risen significantly to around 22,000 won per kilogram.

Market conditions fluctuate frequently depending on the supply volume and the aftermath of holidays, so it is necessary to check when visiting. Especially in the case of fresh fish, the supply volume per item changes drastically according to seasonal changes, so it is helpful to check the market prices of the specific store before visiting.
