Pork Belly 1,908–2,680 won per 100g, Front Leg Meat 1,090–1,500 won... What is the difference for 500g?
During Chuseok shopping, the price difference between pork belly and front leg meat can serve as a criterion for choosing cuts.
In Chuseok shopping, the price difference between pork belly and front leg meat can be a criterion for selecting cuts. Promotional prices are guided at 1,908–2,680 won per 100g for pork belly and 1,090–1,500 won for front leg meat, meaning the cost burden for front leg meat is lower when buying the same weight.
Producer Price Index rises 5.4%... Pork belly consumer price also higher than last year
The rise in pork prices was confirmed in both the producer price and consumer price indices. In August 2026, the producer price of pork rose by 5.4% from the previous month, and prices for agricultural, forestry, fishery, and livestock products also rose due to the influence of heatwaves and rising international oil prices.
As of September 16, the consumer price of pork belly was recorded at 3,018 won per 100g. This is 7.6% higher than the daily average for the same month last year and 11.4% higher than the daily average for the same month in a typical year. However, since this figure is a consumer price index with a different reference point than the promotional sale prices, it cannot be directly compared to the actual prices at discount stores.
Chuseok promotion: Pork belly 1,908–2,680 won, front leg meat 1,090–1,500 won
Pork discount promotions for Chuseok 2026 are being held until September 30 at large, medium, and small-sized marts, as well as Hanaro Mart of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation and livestock cooperatives. The discount targets are domestic pork belly, pork neck, and front leg meat (known as jeonji), and depending on the company and store, prices about 10–50% lower than normal prices are applied.
The promotional sales range is 1,908–2,680 won for pork belly and 1,090–1,500 won for front leg meat per 100g. The existing selling prices were guided at 2,900–3,290 won for pork belly and 1,490–2,180 won for front leg meat. Therefore, even for the same cut, the actual expenditure varies depending on which store one purchases the promotional items from.
Calculating for 500g, choosing front leg meat can result in a maximum difference of 7,950 won
The difference becomes clear when converting the extreme ends of the disclosed promotional prices to the same weight. Comparing the lowest price of pork belly at 1,908 won with the highest price of front leg meat at 1,500 won results in a difference of 408 won per 100g, or 2,040 won for 500g. Conversely, comparing the highest price of pork belly at 2,680 won with the lowest price of front leg meat at 1,090 won results in a difference of 1,590 won per 100g, or 7,950 won for 500g.
In other words, when purchasing the same 500g within the disclosed price range, front leg meat is calculated to cost 2,040–7,950 won less than pork belly. This is an amount calculated by comparing the promotional price ranges of each cut, and the actual savings will vary depending on the price of the chosen store and the promotional conditions of the specific product.
Promotional prices at emart, LOTTE MART, Mart King, and National Agricultural Cooperative Federation differ from each other
There are also differences in the disclosed prices by store. emart announced that it will sell pork belly and pork neck at a minimum of 1,908 won per 100g, while LOTTE MART announced it will sell pork belly and pork neck at a minimum of 2,226 won. Mart King will sell pork belly and pork neck at 2,300 won and front leg meat at 1,500 won, respectively, until the end of September.
Looking only at the prices at the same Mart King store, the difference between 2,300 won for pork belly and 1,500 won for front leg meat is 800 won per 100g. 67 distribution affiliates of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation announced they will sell front leg meat at a reduced price from the existing 2,180 won to 1,090 won until September 21. The fact that the end date of the promotion may differ by item is an important condition when comparing stores.
Must check promotion period, cut, and store conditions before comparing prices
This promotion varies in period, discount items, and selling prices depending on the participating companies and stores. Even for the same pork belly, the minimum promotional prices at emart and LOTTE MART are different, and for front leg meat, the 1,090 won promotion of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation distribution affiliates and the 1,500 won promotion of Mart King have different end dates.
Therefore, before shopping, one should check whether it is pork belly or front leg meat, what the price per 100g is, until when the promotion lasts, and whether the store one intends to visit is a participant. If planning to buy the same 500g, front leg meat is 2,040–7,950 won cheaper than pork belly based on the disclosed range, but the actual calculation result may vary depending on store conditions and changes in the promotion.
