Bokhyangwon Panjeom in Chungmuro: Sichuan-style Chicken and Yangjo-style Fried Rice with an Authentic Local Feel
In the Chungmuro area of Seoul, Jung-gu, there is a Chinese restaurant gaining attention for its unique menu that reproduces the authentic taste of China. According to a video from the YouTube channel Kim Sawon Sekki (released on August 17, 2025), Bokhyangwon Panjeom, located about a 7-minute walk from Chungmuro Station Exit 1, was introduced as a place with a local-style menu composition and cost-effectiveness, to the point that it did not offer delivery for an entire week. Capturing the vivid atmosphere near Dongguk University, this restaurant catches the eye with a wide variety of menus that one would typically eat in China.
From Sichuan-style Chicken to Yangjo-style Fried Rice with Individual Grains
Bokhyangwon Panjeom offers dozens of menu items, most of which are priced in the 10,000 won range, making it highly cost-effective. The first menu item introduced in the video is the Sichuan-style chicken dish, 'Lazidiquai'. This dish, featuring fried chicken combined with a spicy, salty sauce and the numbing sensation of mala, shows characteristics similar to Sichuan-style Kkanpunggi. It is evaluated as being suitable as a snack for beer due to its crispy texture and unique sauce.
The 'Galbi Squid Stir-fry' introduced next is a rare combination menu that can only be seen at this restaurant. The participant in the video emphasized the taste of the unique sauce—which is neither a braised chicken sauce nor a sweet galbi-jjim sauce—explaining that it is delicious enough to want to mix with a bowl of rice. While the texture of the meat is not extremely soft, it was described as a delicacy that makes you want to drink unlimited amounts of beer because of the pleasure of grabbing and tearing it.
Among the fried rice menus, 'Yangjo-style Fried Rice' was strongly recommended. Its characteristic is that every single grain of rice is coated in oil, with eggs and ingredients spread evenly without clumping. The participant urged to definitely order this menu, stating that the salty seasoning has reached an artistic level. The 'Stir-fried Shredded Potatoes' ordered together feature a crunchy texture and appropriate acidity, and it was mentioned that they pair very well when eaten with the fried rice.
Beer Hall Jung, a Beer Specialist with All Standing Seats
After finishing the meal at the Chinese restaurant, 'Beer Hall Jung' near Chungmuro Station Exit 8 was introduced as a good place to visit. Uniquely, this place operates as a 'standing beer pub' where all seats are for standing. It is so popular that people crowd in despite the inconvenience of having to eat while standing.
The main menu of Beer Hall Jung is beer. In the video, the visual of draft beer being poured with smooth foam by professional hands was emphasized. In particular, the beer topped with dense foam shows high quality despite being a domestic beer. Additionally, an unusual menu item called 'Milk Fanta', where only the smooth foam is extracted and drunk, was introduced. The participant strongly recommended it, describing it as "a smoothness like gulping down a bowl of beer."
