Bok-dol's Runaways and Trauma from Yokjido: A Changed Walking Style After Visiting a Training Center

A video has been released capturing the process of change as Hong-tae, a resident of Yokjido, and his pet dog Bok-dol visit a dog training center to learn proper walking methods and control techniques. Three-year-old Bok-dol is a mix of a Jindo dog and a Siberian Husky; while he possesses a friendly nature that loves people, he had a habit of running away from the village whenever his leash was released.

Runaways within Half a Day and Trauma Regarding Water

In the video, Hong-tae is shown experiencing difficulties due to Bok-dol's frequent runaways. Whenever the leash was released, Bok-dol would instantly leave the village, creating situations where Hong-tae had to chase after him. Hong-tae moved urgently, driving a car to find Bok-dol and asking village residents about his whereabouts. Fortunately, Bok-dol was found again and returned home only half a day after running away, but Hong-tae expressed his frustration by imposing a penalty of not giving Bok-dol dinner.

Additionally, it was confirmed that Bok-dol has severe trauma regarding water due to an incident experienced in the sea in the past. When boarding a passenger ship bound for Tongyeong, Bok-dol lay flat on the boat and could not move, feeling such fear that he could not even glance toward the sea. Hong-tae was shown making efforts to soothe Bok-dol's anxiety.

Learning "Proper Control is Also Love" at the Training Center

Worried that Bok-dol might cause trouble for the village elders, Hong-tae visited a dog training center located in Gimhae. According to the instructor at the center, Bok-dol was described as a type with good adaptability despite it being his first visit. During the training process, Hong-tae realizes that while he thought letting Bok-dol do whatever he wanted without control was love, it was not freedom but indulgence.

The instructor provided specific instructions on proper walking methods. It was explained that instead of just holding the end of the leash, one should utilize the width of the leash to keep the hand at an appropriate level, maintain space between the dog and the owner, and hold the leash somewhat short. Advice was also added that if walking goes well, the leash can be gradually lengthened. Through this training, Hong-tae learns that proper control is also a way of showing love.

Bok-dol's Changed Walks and New Appearance

A few days after completing the training, Bok-dol showed a different side than before. During walks by the seaside, he showed progress, such as walking in step with Hong-tae, unlike in the past. In particular, Bok-dol, who previously could not even dare to board a fishing boat due to his fear of water, showed a change by boarding a fishing boat after the training. Hong-tae expressed his intention to continue education so that Bok-dol, who was born on the island and will continue to live on the island, can become friendly with the water.
