Poodle Meri's Sudden Biting and the Owner's Dilemma: Is a Lack of Socialization the Cause?
The owner of a 6-year-old poodle named Meri has requested help from the program 'Dogs Are Incredible' due to the dog's sudden biting behavior.
According to a video from KBS Animal TV : Animal for You animal4u, the owner of a 6-year-old poodle named Meri requested help from the program 'Dogs Are Incredible,' expressing the difficulties she is facing due to her dog's sudden biting problems.
According to the owner's explanation, Meri shows a "clingy" personality during walks, only looking at her owner and following her closely. Outside, she is timid and fearful, showing such dependency that she constantly asks to be held, but inside the house, sudden biting has emerged as a serious problem.
Biting that suddenly turns aggressive while acting cute, and the owner's distress
Meri's biggest problem is biting. The owner reported that Meri's behavior is unpredictable, such as acting cute and then trying to bite again when touched upon request. In particular, the biting has worsened since she turned three, and incidents of her biting the owner's lips or thighs and causing wounds are recurring. Due to this behavior, it is difficult to control her even during baths, to the point where her belly or legs cannot be touched.
Although the owner loves Meri very much, she feels frustrated and irritated because Meri tries to bite whenever she attempts to touch her. She even confessed to hitting a psychological limit, to the point of contemplating whether she should adopt Meri out to another place. However, she showed a determination to live happily with Meri, struggling between the desire to take responsibility until the end and the worry that the dog might be abandoned.
Suspected lack of socialization and expert observation
In the video, Meri showed a wary attitude, clinging only to her owner when a stranger visited. The owner explained that Meri shows aggression by refusing to be touched not only by strangers but also by people she usually sees. Based on Meri's excessive obsession with her owner outdoors and her refusal to be touched, the experts mentioned the possibility of a lack of socialization and advised that it is necessary to check if she has ever socialized with other dogs.
As a result of on-site observation, Meri showed signs of being unable to focus and feeling anxious when a stranger approached. In particular, the owner mentioned that it was shocking to see Meri exhibiting behavior as if she were hitting herself when left alone in the house, suggesting that Meri's stress levels are high.
