According to a video from Kang Hyung-wook's Bodeum TV, step-by-step training methods for dogs that are fearful or suffer from motion sickness have been revealed. In this training conducted with a 4-month-old Chihuahua named 'Pungmun', specific guides tailored to the dog's temperament were presented, ranging from ways to alleviate motion sickness to walking tips for socialization training.

Creating an Environment and Adaptation Training for Dogs with Motion Sickness

Trainer Kang Hyung-wook explained that for dogs that experience motion sickness when riding in a car, they can feel stressed in a situation where the car is moving while their body remains stationary. To alleviate this, a process is needed to make the car perceived as a 'place to go for fun.' It helps to repeat the practice of stopping at a parking lot as one of the walking courses to eat treats every day for a little bit.

Additionally, setting up the environment inside the car is also important. For dogs that suffer from motion sickness, it is recommended to cover the kennel with a cloth to block their vision so that the scenery outside the window is not visible. When moving, it is most recommended to place them in a legroom area (near the rear seat footwell) where there is less shaking. The video also guided the correct posture for holding small dogs to protect back health, using one hand to support the chest and the other hand to support the hips and belly.

'Returning Walks' and Socialization Strategies for Fearful Dogs

For dogs that are afraid of the external environment, a 'returning walk' was recommended rather than blindly going outside. This method involves repeating short courses that start near the house and return to the house, gradually expanding the range. If the dog refuses to wear a harness, the resistance can be reduced by starting with practice walking inside the house after tying a light shoelace around the neck like a decoration.

For socialization training, a strategy of making a specific place a 'base camp' is effective. This involves setting up a kennel in a place like a park, letting the dog feel comfortable through nosework around it, and then utilizing strangers. In this case, instead of the stranger giving treats directly to the dog, treats should be hidden nearby to induce the dog to find them on its own. Through this, the dog perceives the appearance of a stranger not as a threat, but as a 'pleasant event of finding treats.' The video emphasized that these experiences must accumulate to become the foundation for overcoming potential shocks later on.
