Naju Lake Skywalk Opens, Featuring an Aerial Deck Path Over the Water Built with 11 billion won
A 2-day, 1-night travel itinerary has been introduced, visiting Naju, Jeollanam-do, to walk through the Metasequoia path at the Jeollanam-do Forest Resources Research Institute and the 500-year-old Dorae Village, before walking the recently opened Naju Lake Skywalk. According to a video from the YouTube channel 'Freedom and Mountains - Walking Travel Trekking' (released on September 5, 2026), the core of this trip is the Naju Lake section, where an aerial deck path crossing over the water has been constructed with a project budget of 11 billion won.
Metasequoia Path and the 500-Year-Old Dorae Village
The starting point of the trip is the Jeollanam-do Forest Resources Research Institute, which has been designated as one of Korea's top 100 premium forests. The presenter in the video explained that the Metasequoia path here stretches out refreshingly, and the main walking path is designed as a barrier-free path without steps, allowing anyone to walk comfortably. Inside the research institute, there are walking paths where one can walk while smelling the scent of pine trees, providing an exotic landscape. While touring the inside of the institute, the presenter shared the impression, "If I had more time, I think it would be fine to spend an entire day here."
Located about a 2-minute drive from the Jeollanam-do Forest Resources Research Institute is Dorae Village, a representative Hanok village of the Honam region with over 500 years of history. This is a historic place where the Hongsan Hong clan has lived as a clan village since the time of King Sejo of Joseon, and residents still live there today. In the video, an attempt was made to view the old houses inside the village, but they could not enter the interior as the gates were locked.
Naju Local Restaurants and the Historical Site Geumseonggwan Hall
Taegwang Galbi and Noanjip were mentioned as Naju food specialties. At Taegwang Galbi, one can enjoy Naju-style ribs along with spicy cold noodles and seonji-guk (ox blood soup), and the video shows receiving steamed eggs through a review event. The video mentions the harmony between the ribs and spicy cold noodles, and it can be confirmed that clear-broth seonji-guk is provided together. Additionally, Gomtang (beef bone soup) and salad bread, which are representative foods of Naju, were introduced. Salad bread was mentioned as a good place to stop by when visiting Naju. At Noanjip, Gomtang, kimchi, and kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) are shown being served.
As a historical site, there is Geumseonggwan Hall, which was a large-scale guesthouse where central officials of the Joseon period stayed or foreign envoys were received. At the time of the video release, Geumseonggwan Hall was undergoing renovation, so interior viewing was restricted. Geumseonggwan Hall is a symbolic place that shows how large a city Naju was during the Joseon period.
The Scenery of the Naju Lake Skywalk Built with 11 Billion Won
The highlight of the trip is the newly created Skywalk in the Naju Lake Trail section. According to the video, this aerial deck path crosses Naju Lake, providing an experience as if walking on water. The presenter emphasized the refreshing feeling of the lake, saying, "It is a refreshing scenery that opens up your chest." The video captures the sight of walking the Skywalk against the backdrop of the emerald lake and sparkling waves.
The Skywalk is designed to secure a high vantage point, allowing one to overlook the surrounding scenery from high above the lake. It takes about 3 hours to complete one loop of the Naju Lake Trail, and the course is divided into sections. The presenter in the video chose this Skywalk section, which was the main purpose of this trip. To reach the entrance of the Naju Lake Trail, one can search for Jungheung Gold Spa & Resort and drive to the end of the road to use the parking space and restrooms. However, it was noted that there are no restrooms inside the trail, so they should be used in advance before departing.
