Trekking Geumdangdo Island in Goheung, Jeollanam-do: A Course Walking Through Vertical Cliffs and the Secret Scenery of Dadohae

Geumdangdo Island in Goheung, Jeollanam-do, is a place called a 'famous mountain within an island' where sheer vertical cliffs and the scenery of Dadohae harmonize. Recently becoming a popular spot through word of mouth, many trekkers visit this place, which embraces rare and magnificent landscapes in Korea, such as the Geumdang Red Cliffs and Sepo Observatory.

Driving the Geogeumdo Coastal Road and Walking the Ecological Forest

Prior to the Geumdangdo trekking, according to a video from the 'Freedom and Mountain - Walking Travel Trekking' channel, the cast first visited Geogeumdo Island in Goheung, Jeollanam-do, to enjoy a drive. Geogeum Bridge is Korea's first double-deck marine bridge, consisting of an upper deck for vehicles and a lower deck composed of a bicycle path and a pedestrian walkway.

On Geogeumdo Island, a walking course centered around the Geogeum Ecological Forest was introduced. Starting from the ecological forest parking lot and proceeding through the valley observation path, the suspension bridge, and the Canopy Highway Observatory, the course took 1 hour and 12 minutes to walk approximately 1.96km. In particular, at the Canopy Highway and the observatory, one can experience walking forest paths while overlooking the sea.

The Secret Scenery of Vertical Cliffs Encountered on Geumdangdo Island

The full-scale island trekking begins by taking a boat from Nokdong Port to Geumdangdo Island. After arriving on Geumdangdo via a boat departing around 5:50 AM, the trekking proceeds along the Yulpo Basic Path on Road 1. In the video, the cast member walked along the Geumdang Red Cliffs Trail and faced the massive natural landscape surrounding the island.

Upon reaching the vicinity of Sepo Observatory, vertical cliffs of at least 30m unfold. The cast member explained the unique cliff scenery of Geumdangdo, saying, "You can see the scenery three-dimensionally, like drone footage, rather than just seeing it from a cruise ship." The trekking course continues past Sepo Observatory toward Sunset Observatory, Songjanggul Observatory, and the direction of Mokseom Island, providing a unique experience of exploring an unknown world along paths cut through rock crevices.

While the Geumdangdo trekking involves a mix of forest paths and uphills, it overall includes flat sections, making it a suitable course for walking while three-dimensionally appreciating the island's coastal cliffs and strangely shaped rocks.
