Various fusion dishes have recently been attracting considerable attention online. Many are introduced on television, and unusual foods brought in by celebrities often become popular. One fusion dish that has gained particular popularity is kimpitang. The dish became a hot topic after it was reportedly first developed by a sweet-and-sour pork restaurant among the eateries near Gongju Bus Terminal. Kimpitang is short for kimchi pizza tangsuyuk and, as its name suggests, is made by combining kimchi, pizza, and sweet-and-sour pork.

How to Make Kimpitang, Popular for Its Unique Flavor

Ingredients: sweet-and-sour pork, kimchi, mozzarella cheese, onion, shiitake mushrooms, Cheongyang chili pepper, sugar

Directions

1. Cut the kimchi into small pieces and mince the onion and Cheongyang chili pepper. Cut the shiitake mushrooms into slices that are not too thin.

2. Add oil to a frying pan, then stir-fry an amount of kimchi roughly equal to the amount of sweet-and-sour pork until its sour taste disappears.

3. Once the kimchi is partially cooked, add the onion, Cheongyang chili pepper, and shiitake mushrooms and stir-fry.

4. Place the sweet-and-sour pork in an oven-safe dish, then pour a little of the sweet-and-sour sauce over it.

5. Place the stir-fried kimchi over the sweet-and-sour pork, then top it with slightly less mozzarella cheese than kimchi.

6. Place the prepared kimpitang in an oven preheated to 140°C and cook.

7. Once the cheese has melted thoroughly, remove it from the oven, transfer it to a plate, and enjoy.
