Cymric, the Stylish Short-Tailed Cat

A stylish cat with a round appearance, a luxuriant coat, and a tail so inconspicuous that it seems hidden—that is the Cymric.

The Cymric is often regarded as a genetic variation of the Manx cat with long hair. The Cymric and Manx are believed to have originated on the Isle of Man in Wales. The name Cymric comes from the Welsh word Cymru, and Wales lies 125 miles south of the Isle of Man.

This cat has a medium-sized bone and muscle structure. As mentioned earlier, the Cymric, a long-haired version of the Manx, has a luxuriant coat. Its undercoat is also thicker than its outer coat. One of this cat's distinctive features is its tail. It has a tail, but the spine is bluntly recessed where the tail would normally be. Cymric tails come in four lengths: a very short stump, a slightly longer stump, a tail that looks cut short, and a long tail. Of these, the very short stump, which makes the cat appear tailless, is the most popular.

Pet publication PetMD said, “The Cymric is known for being loyal and gentle.” Although this breed has a lively personality, it rarely displays aggressive behavior. Gentle and sociable, this cat gets along well with other pets, especially dogs. PetMD reported that the cat can be trained to perform several tricks.

However, there are precautions to take when raising this stylish cat. Cymrics like water, but they should never be forced into it. They can also be injured by jumping down carelessly, so they should not be allowed to climb to high places.
