The cappuccino is said to have gotten its name from the shape of the long white hood worn by a Catholic religious order. A cappuccino consists of espresso topped with a generous layer of milk foam. According to Starbucks, a cappuccino contains 91 calories and is not particularly high in calories because it uses less milk than a latte. In particular, it has only about two-thirds the calories of a caramel macchiato, which contains 142 calories. It is therefore a coffee option that even those on a diet can enjoy without much concern. Let’s take a closer look at cappuccino.

The Difference Between a Cappuccino and a Latte

Both café lattes and cappuccinos are made by pouring hot milk into espresso. The difference between them lies in the thickness of the foam. In a latte, the ratio of espresso to milk to foam is 1:1.5:0.5, resulting in a very thin layer of foam. In contrast, a cappuccino has a ratio of 1:1:1, giving it a considerably thicker layer of foam. As a result, plenty of foam remains in the cup after drinking a cappuccino. A cappuccino also differs from a café latte in that it is finished with a dusting of cinnamon powder.
