Good Neighbor Project to Protect Cats

[FamTimes reporter Jennylyn Gianan] The Good Neighbor Project announced that it has launched a new campaign to protect cats.

Growing cat populations and overcrowding are now problems faced by most animal welfare organizations. However, they argued that both stray and domestic cats should be protected.

Good Neighbor CEO Christina Besske said responsible cat owners should not only ensure their cats’ welfare and safety, but also protect animals in their local area and the surrounding environment. In other words, this is how to be a “good neighbor.”

Besske advocated restricting domestic cats from going outdoors between sunset and dawn. This is intended to prevent them from hunting and keep them safe from potential health threats they may encounter outdoors.

“Cats can live very happy lives indoors,” Besske said. “All cat owners should keep their cats indoors, place them in safely enclosed areas when outside, and bring them indoors after sunset,” Besske added.

However, keeping cats indoors should not prevent them from being as active as they want. Besske said owners should provide plenty of toys, play with their cats while at home, and offer scratching posts or cat toys so the animals can release their energy.

Keeping your cat indoors is an easy way to be both a good neighbor and a good cat owner, but that does not mean your cat should lead a boring life. Enrich daily life for both you and your companion cat.
