At the IAA Motor Show in Germany, FAW's Concept Truck Features a Living Room-like Interior and Autonomous Driving Technology

Specific features of futuristic trucks and autonomous models presented by Chinese commercial vehicle brands have been confirmed at the IAA Motor Show in Germany. Models demonstrating the electrification and spatial changes of commercial vehicles were exhibited, ranging from FAW's futuristic concept truck to Foton's electric truck and Skywell's autonomous bus.

FAW Concept Truck, an Interior Space Like a Moved Living Room

The futuristic concept truck FAW TL.X, revealed at the FAW booth, is a model targeting the year 2036, showing an interior design that breaks away from the concept of existing trucks. In the video, the FAW TL.X is configured like a living room inside the truck, featuring a system where graphics appear at the front and the driver's seat moves upward during autonomous driving. The interior is equipped with a beam projector, a wardrobe, and storage spaces, and a bed is installed at the top, accessible via a ladder. The rear of the vehicle features a diffuser for high-speed driving, and the doors open in a sliding manner. Regarding charging methods, MCS (Megawatt Charging System) and V2G (Vehicle to Grid) technologies were mentioned.

Foton's Electrification Lineup, Low Body and Electric Vans

The Foton brand introduced a new electric vehicle lineup. The revealed electric truck has an exterior design similar to Tesla's Semi truck and features a design that increases charging speed by using two charging ports. In particular, this electric truck maintains a low body height based on an electrified design without an engine, which results in the driver's seat being positioned lower than in the existing Porter or Bongo. Additionally, Foton's new brand, CAVAN, presented a model in the form of an electric van, which features a low body and a unique boarding and exiting structure.

Skywell's Autonomous Bus and Unmanned Driving Technology

Skywell presented the form of a future bus through its autonomous concept model 'L4'. This model is designed to enable driving in narrow alleys by realizing a short turning radius of 6.8m, and assuming autonomous driving, it takes a form where the driver's seat and steering wheel are removed and a robotic arm is placed. The exhibited vehicle is equipped with numerous sensors such as LiDAR, radar, and cameras. According to an official on-site, Skywell is known to already be operating unmanned buses at Hong Kong Airport in China, Xinjiang Urumqi Airport, and open roads in Nanjing. An official from the brand stated that they have a history of working at KIA for 12 years.
