McDonald's Gochujang Burger 2 types released, what is the taste of the sauce mixed with Gochujang Butter

McDonald's Korea has released two types of 'Gochujang Burger' as its first introduction in the country. These new products are characterized by the use of a sauce made by mixing Gochujang with butter and cheese, and they have been unveiled in Korea first, with plans to be released sequentially in 13 Asian countries.

According to the content of the video released on the Mat Sangmu YouTube channel, these new products are composed by adding Gochujang Butter sauce, cheese, and vegetables to the existing McCrispy Burger and McSpicy Burger. The menu operates with two types: McSpicy Gochujang Butter (7,500 won) and McCrispy Gochujang Butter (8,500 won).

Difference in sauce taste between chicken thigh and chicken breast patties

The biggest difference between the two products is the part of the patty and the type of bun. McCrispy Gochujang Butter uses a chicken thigh patty and adds a savory taste using cheese mixed from Monterey cheese and Colby-Jack cheese. On the other hand, McSpicy Gochujang Butter uses a chicken breast patty and applies a sesame seed bun. In the video, it is explained that the McSpicy product is more suitable for feeling the taste of the sauce thanks to the simple taste of the chicken breast, and the spiciness of the sauce stands out enough to make the tip of the tongue tingle.

The core ingredient, the Gochujang Butter sauce, is made by mixing Gochujang with butter and cheese; the video stated that it is similar to "the taste of mixing margarine and mayonnaise into Gochujang and dipping bread in it," and that a slight, familiar scent of fermented paste (jang) brushes past for Koreans. However, the analysis suggests that since other ingredients inside the burger tend to mask the taste of the sauce, the pungent smell of red pepper powder and the deep scent of fermented paste are felt more clearly when tasting only the sauce applied to the bun.

A smooth spiciness different from existing chili-based burgers

These new products are of a different nature from the previously released burgers based on chipotle or jalapeño sauces. While existing products emphasized intense spiciness and smoky aromas, the Gochujang Butter sauce is characterized by adding butter to neutralize the spiciness and make it smooth. The video evaluated that rather than expecting extreme spiciness or uniqueness, it is appropriate to enjoy the spiciness that rises along with the subtle taste of fermented paste.

The presenter added a personal opinion that to maximize the taste of the chicken burger, a form composed mainly of the patty, sauce, and pickles would be the most delicious rather than adding a lot of vegetables or cheese. This McDonald's Korea Gochujang Burger series holds significance in that it is a menu directly developed by McDonald's Korea.
