Egg dishes are recommended as a dinner option for anyone wondering what to eat tonight, whether as basic side dishes or something to serve with a meal. Because eggs, including baked and boiled eggs as well as steamed eggs, are relatively low in calories, they are ideal for a simple dinner. Here are the best times and methods for boiling eggs, along with recipes for rolled omelet and steamed eggs.

Tips on Egg-Boiling Times and Methods

For five eggs, the suggested boiling times are: ▲10 minutes for soft-boiled eggs; ▲12 minutes for yolks that are firm on the outside and soft on the inside; and ▲14 minutes or longer for hard-boiled eggs.

Helpful egg-boiling tips include: ▲add salt to help prevent the eggs from cracking; ▲add vinegar to make the shells easier to peel; and ▲let the eggs sit out for a while before boiling to help keep the shells from cracking. Other tips for boiling eggs without an egg cooker include adding enough water to cover the eggs completely and reducing the heat to low once the water begins to boil.
