Pit bulls are often labeled aggressive, but experts say temperament is shaped by upbringing and environment rather than breed.

[FamTimes reporter Lee Kyung-han] Many people have negative perceptions of pit bull breeds. People tend to generalize that all pit bulls share the same aggressive temperament. However, there are many different dog breeds around the world, as well as numerous mixed breeds. Pit bulls are also mixed-breed dogs. They originated as crosses between bulldogs and terriers. Unfortunately, pit bulls have come to be perceived as vicious dogs, even though this has not actually been proven.

These negative misconceptions spread after people in some areas were bitten by pit bulls. People claim that pit bulls are an extremely dangerous breed. They believe that any pit bull will inevitably bite people. However, animal experts have shown that this belief is wrong. Experts said a dog's breed does not affect its temperament. Instead, the environment in which a dog is raised influences its temperament.

Dog owners should understand that provoking a dog can be dangerous, and it is important to train their pets to become accustomed to other people and animals. With this training, pets can quickly feel at ease whenever they encounter a different environment.

Pit bulls are still considered a dangerous breed. Compared with other crossbreeds, they are greatly misunderstood. People need to understand that a dog's vicious temperament is not attributable to its breed.
