TAEYONG's Final Choice for 'Street World Fighter: Directors' War' Director Mission is Gwa-a & Back Koo Young Team

In the solo artist directing mission of 'Street World Fighter: Directors' War', which is broadcast simultaneously on Mnet and tvN, artist TAEYONG selected the Gwa-a & Back Koo Young team as his final director.

Different Stage Strategies of Nine & Baby Joo Team and Gwa-a & Back Koo Young Team

In this mission, the choreographers of the two teams presented different interpretations of the same song. The Nine & Baby Joo team established a strategy to naturally draw out TAEYONG's movements. According to the subtitles in the video and the remarks of the cast, they focused on highlighting the natural movements coming from TAEYONG's body and presented a composition that added dimensionality by utilizing dancers. In particular, the Baby Joo team focused on gaining the audience's response through picture-like directing.

On the other hand, the Gwa-a & Back Koo Young team emphasized the completeness of the stage and communication with fans. Back Koo Young's team utilized wind machines to create an atmosphere like a large-scale concert and composed the performance so that fans could feel an endorphin rush. Additionally, they added details for the fans, such as displaying the message TAEYONG wanted to convey on LED screens. The Gwa-a team focused on completing the entire stage by personally checking even the costume details to maximize TAEYONG's color.

The 'Flick Dance' and Director Competency that Determined TAEYONG's Choice

During the practice process, the process of coordinating opinions between the directors and TAEYONG regarding the 'flick dance', which is a point of the choreography, was revealed. The Nine & Baby Joo team first taught trendy choreography to induce TAEYONG to learn the moves. Back Koo Young's team went through a process of meeting the artist's needs by reflecting the movements (flick dance) that TAEYONG personally wanted to do.

Immediately after the announcement of the results, TAEYONG mentioned that it was "the most shocking among recent ones" and shared his thoughts that if he had been the decision-maker, he might have made a different choice. However, regarding the reason for finally choosing the Gwa-a & Back Koo Young team, he explained that it was because Back Koo Young's team completed a stage that fills the energy inside the performance venue and had high completeness in terms of performance aspects shared with fans.

Choreographers' Reflections on the Mission and Differences in Stage Composition

The choreographers of each team mentioned their different compositional methods. The Nine & Baby Joo team stated that unlike the opposing team which used props, they sought differentiation through a composition utilizing dancers. Conversely, the Gwa-a & Back Koo Young team chose a method of creating intuitive formations centered around TAEYONG using dancers and maximizing the roles of the dancers.

The Gwa-a team stated that they focused on bringing out the artist's color through this mission and paid attention to even minute details, such as using red colors for the costumes to express a rough and raw image. After all missions ended, the cast members expressed their impression that even with the same song, a completely different stage is born depending on the director's interpretation.
