"Dialect is My Charm"... Cast Members from Gyeongsang Province Reveal Regional Pride and Life in Seoul

In a video uploaded to the YouTube channel Etume, cast members from the Gyeongsang Province region shared honest conversations about their pride in their respective hometowns and their lives after moving to Seoul.

In the video, the cast members, who share backgrounds based in Gyeongsang Province regions such as Daegu, Busan, and Gyeongsan in Gyeongsangbuk-do, talked about their regional characteristics. A cast member from Gyeongsan mentioned that because Gyeongsan is adjacent to Daegu, they move to Daegu to use amusement facilities like E-World, while a cast member from Daegu emphasized the warmth of the people in Daegu. A cast member from Busan expressed affection for the region by mentioning the loyalty of Busan.

In particular, there was also mention of the dialects portrayed in the media. The cast members expressed the opinion that some dialect expressions shown in the media can be artificial, explaining that in real life, expressions like "mworakano" are not frequently used. One cast member stated, "I like using the dialect. I like myself using the dialect," and revealed that when they were tasked with being an MC for a music program, they were advised to feel comfortable using their dialect. They showed a firm attitude toward their regional identity, saying, "I came to Seoul to show the masculinity of Daegu, not to become a person from Seoul."

The Convenience of Seoul and Differences in Transportation Environment Felt After Moving to Seoul

Regarding life in Seoul, specific differences compared to their home regions were mentioned. The cast members cited 'dawn delivery' as one of the convenient infrastructures in Seoul, describing it as a "revolution." On the other hand, Seoul's traffic congestion, complex wayfinding, and the subway system where additional charges occur upon exiting were mentioned as inconveniences compared to their hometown regions.

Experiences regarding transportation to go back to their hometowns were also shared. The cast members mentioned the difficulty of booking train tickets during holiday periods along with the advantages of using trains such as KTX and SRT. In particular, they added personal experiences that SRT has wider seat space and faster travel times than KTX. Additionally, they lamented the difficulty of navigating complex paths in Seoul and spoke about their experiences using the Yongsan terminal.

The Warmth of Parents and Longing for Hometown

The longing for hometown felt by those who moved to Seoul manifested in food and images of family. The cast members reminisced about memories, mentioning menus such as gukbap (lean pork gukbap, etc.), mandu, and tteokgalbi that they ate in their hometowns. In particular, a cast member who had experience living in Gyeongju mentioned the taste of a kalguksu restaurant their grandmother used to take them to, sharing the experience of feeling a similar taste in Seoul.

The emotional bond with family also became a topic of conversation. Anecdotes were introduced about moving to Seoul carrying food (side dishes, fruit, corn, etc.) prepared by parents and grandmothers during holidays or vacation periods. One cast member shared the emotions they felt while talking on the phone with their father during their first day of work after moving to Seoul, recounting an anecdote of worrying about their family while trying not to show weakness as a Daegu man.
