Gangwon Province Yangyang's 9-year veteran chicken-herding Jindo dog Kkang-sun's reaction when a snake appears

Deep in the mountains of Yangyang, Gangwon Province, at a poultry farm where thousands of chickens are raised free-range, there are 'Kkang-sun', a Jindo dog in her 9th year of herding chickens and guarding the farm, and 'Kola', who is in her 3rd year. According to a KBS Animal TV : Animal for You animal4u video, they perform the core role of gathering the chickens at the time the grandfather needs to bring them inside.

Chicken-herding skills that gather thousands of chickens in 15 minutes

When the grandfather gives the signal to bring the chickens inside, Kkang-sun and Kola immediately begin herding them. Rather than simply chasing after the chickens, they demonstrate techniques such as driving chickens from high places down and patrolling even the cornered areas where chickens frequently stay. In particular, if there is a chicken trying to escape, the two perform a joint operation to block its movement. During this process, Kkang-sun keeps her mouth open while applying pressure to ensure the chickens are herded safely without getting hurt. Thanks to these skilled movements, it takes only 15 minutes to bring all thousands of chickens inside.

Kola, who works alongside her, previously experienced cast treatment at a hospital in Seoul due to a leg injury, but she has now recovered to the point where it does not hinder her chicken herding. On the other hand, Kkang-sun was given her current name thanks to her 'grit' that allowed her to survive a fall from a second floor nine years ago, and she shows intelligence in herding chickens on her own without any special training.

Kkang-sun's instinct to repel the uninvited snake at the poultry farm

There are days at the peaceful poultry farm when the chickens appear uneasy and look around in all directions. In the video, when a snake—an uninvited guest that can transmit germs to the chickens—appears, a scene is captured where Kkang-sun reacts agilely to subdue the snake. Kkang-sun exerted high concentration to repel the snake in one shot, and because she faces wild animals to protect the chickens, she has also contracted a skin disease. The grandfather and his wife are constantly washing and caring for Kkang-sun so that she can recover her health.

The grandfather expresses his gratitude by gifting eggs to Kkang-sun, who completed her mission by repelling the snake, with a proud heart. Kkang-sun and Kola continue their daily routine of going into the mountains with the grandfather every morning to check on the chickens and closing the chicken coop doors when the sun sets, taking responsibility for the safety of the poultry farm.
