How Can You Stay Safe from Cyberattacks? Personal Data Security Tips
Cybersecurity tips include using a separate computer for finances, reviewing purchases, protecting personal data and creating strong passwords.
Dr. Eric Cole of the Cybersecurity Commission said, “Although cyberattacks targeting personal and payment information cannot be prevented entirely, the damage can be controlled and minimized.” Here are the online security strategies he introduced.
Use a separate computer for financial activities
First, keeping one computer for browsing and shopping and another for financial activities can minimize online security threats. Dr. Cole explained, “Most people are reluctant to buy a second computer because of the cost, but no other method is as effective.”
Set up a system for reviewing purchase history
Another way to guard against online security threats is to use multiple credit cards when paying for purchases. Using a different credit card for each payment can be inconvenient, but it allows purchases to be reviewed efficiently.
Be careful about exposing personal information
People readily expose their personal information online. Personal data should be provided only to trusted individuals or companies, and people should beware of online scams that exploit personal information. In particular, they should exercise caution before clicking suspicious attachments or links when checking email.
Use stronger passwords
Strong passwords help improve computer security. Dr. Cole recommended thinking of a passphrase when creating a password.
