For a Waterlogged Phone, Air-Dry It Instead of Using a Hair Dryer
Turn off a waterlogged phone, remove surface moisture, air-dry it for at least five hours, and avoid hair dryers before seeking repair.
Various problems can arise while using a mobile phone. The most common include loss, a dead battery, water damage, and physical damage. Among these, accidentally dropping a smartphone in water is common regardless of the season or time. Recently released phones, including the latest iPhone and Galaxy models, offer everyday water resistance, so they may continue to work normally even if accidentally dropped in water. However, even a water-resistant phone may fail immediately after submersion if damaged components prevent that protection from working properly; the same applies to a phone with no water resistance at all. Here is what to do if your phone gets wet.
If Your Phone Gets Wet, Turn It Off
Most people turn on a phone after dropping it in water to check whether it still works. However, doing so is a quick way to damage it. Turning on a wet phone immediately can short-circuit waterlogged internal circuits and burn out components. If your phone falls into water, remove as much moisture as possible from its ports and other connectors, then take it to an authorized service center. If the phone has a removable battery, separate the battery from the device as quickly as possible, wipe away the moisture with a dry towel, and visit a nearby repair shop.
Do Not Dry It with a Hair Dryer or Hot-Air Blower!
Some people use a hair dryer or hot-air blower to dry a waterlogged phone. However, this is also dangerous because the intense heat they produce can cause further damage to the phone’s internal components. Instead of using a hot-air blower or hair dryer, remove the moisture and let the phone air-dry for at least five hours, then have it repaired at a nearby service center.
