People Are Lining Up for Trendy 'Cheese Tea'
Cheese tea is a cold drink topped with cheese whipped cream and cheese topping; a tea consultant says the combination tastes rich and balanced.
Cheese tea is exactly what its name suggests—just as you might imagine. But it may not look quite the way you expect.
Cheese tea is served cold. At the bottom is a liquid with a varying base, such as oolong tea, plain milk, or matcha, while the top is covered with whipped cream made from cheese and a cheese topping.
Jenny Cheng, the owner of a Los Angeles café that serves cheese tea, explained, "Cheese tea is similar to a tea latte, but it is distinguished by its thicker foam, cheese whip, and cheese topping."
Some people may think tea and cheese would not go together at all, but those who have actually tasted the drink say otherwise.
Tea consultant Alexis Simmons said, "Pairing tea with cheese creates quite a rich flavor. When the fat in the cheese feels a little heavy, the tea offsets it. It is very well balanced."
If you are trying cheese tea for the first time, you need to learn how to drink it properly. First, keep the cheese topping on the foam from sinking into the tea below. The cheese layer should remain at the very top. This allows the cheese whipped cream and topping to enter your mouth first, followed by the tea.
If you get the chance, give cheese tea a try. You may quickly find yourself hooked.
