A dog tilting its head is truly adorable. But why do dogs do this?

For a very long time, dogs have sought ways to better understand what people say.

Tilting the head is a sign that dogs are confused and want more information. This body language means, "What do you mean?" or "Why?"

Every dog owner has probably seen this. If you verbally command dogs to fetch a ball, they do not understand. But if you actually throw the ball, they realize they are supposed to retrieve it.

Dogs also have extremely sensitive hearing. They can hear everything, but they do not always know where every sound is coming from. By tilting their heads and adjusting them to a certain angle, dogs can hear sounds better.

Dogs can even be confused by familiar sounds. That is why a dog looks at you when you scream or argue loudly with someone. Dogs wonder whether the loud sound really is your voice.

Dogs can also obstruct their own hearing. They tilt their heads to a certain angle because their elongated muzzles act as auditory and visual obstructions.

Even considering all of this, dogs are cute when they tilt their heads.
