Dr. Lee Wang-jae, an authority on Vitamin C, appeared on the Lee Dong-hwan TV channel to explain the scientific basis of how Vitamin C affects liver health and hangover relief. In the video, Dr. Lee Wang-jae detailed the biochemical roles of Vitamin C based on his own experiences and research cases.

Liver recovery through immunological mechanisms of Vitamin C and research cases

Dr. Lee Wang-jae revealed that he previously suffered from liver health issues after inheriting the Hepatitis B virus, but experienced a process where antibodies were formed and antigens disappeared through Vitamin C. Dr. Lee mentioned his father-in-law's case of liver cirrhosis as a motivation for his research and introduced the results of in vivo experiments conducted on mice that cannot produce Vitamin C. He explained that as a result of the experiment, among the mice administered liver-damaging substances, the mice lacking Vitamin C died due to liver damage, whereas the mice that received sufficient Vitamin C showed an immunological mechanism where liver damage either did not occur or was recovered. In relation to this, Dr. Lee added that the research results achieved a performance within the top 5% in an antioxidant-related academic journal.

Mention of liver cancer patient management and improvement of liver function

Dr. Lee Wang-jae stated that he currently operates a cancer clinic and utilizes high-dose Vitamin C. According to the conversation in the video, he mentioned cases where patients with high liver cancer levels (AFP) saw their levels stabilize through prescriptions including Vitamin C. Dr. Lee emphasized that because Vitamin C is not metabolized in the liver, it does not place a burden on the liver, and rather, it can help improve liver function. Director Ban Ji-sang, who appeared alongside him, shared the sentiment that Vitamin C can be helpful when managing liver toxicity caused by anticancer drugs during the treatment process of cancer patients.

Principles of hangover relief through acetaldehyde decomposition

An explanation continued regarding the biochemical principle of how Vitamin C reduces hangovers after drinking alcohol. Dr. Lee Wang-jae mentioned acetaldehyde, the substance responsible for hangovers, and explained that Vitamin C increases the speed at which this substance is decomposed. Dr. Lee cited past experiences with officials from Seoul National University as an example, saying that consuming Vitamin C after drinking helps recover one's condition the next day as acetaldehyde is rapidly removed. Director Ban Ji-sang also agreed, sharing experiences where patients reported reduced hangovers and increased alcohol tolerance after consuming Vitamin C.
