How to Choose and Apply Mascara Wisely for Beautiful Eyes
Curl lashes first, coat them to the roots, separate clumps with a lash comb, and choose mascara based on eye shape, lash condition and desired effect.
According to an article Lindsay Kellner wrote for MBG Lifestyle, “Applying mascara also requires special techniques.” Depending on how the product is applied, the eyes can be made to look different in size and the lashes different in length. Here are several ways to apply mascara effectively.
First, curl the lashes before applying mascara. Kellner emphasized, “If you curl after applying mascara, the mascara may separate from the lashes.” Green beauty expert and celebrity makeup artist Katie Denno noted, “You may not notice it when looking straight into a mirror, but other people can easily spot lashes from the side that have no mascara on them.”
Second, apply mascara thoroughly all the way to the roots. Some people apply mascara only to the tips of their lashes. This can weigh the lashes down, making them more likely to droop, and may leave the makeup looking unfinished.
Third, tidy the lashes with a lash comb after applying mascara. Multiple coats of mascara can cause the lashes to clump, so use a comb to separate them.
Denno advises choosing “the right mascara for the desired effect.” Those who want fuller-looking lashes should choose a product designed to create that effect, while those who want longer lashes may be more satisfied with a lengthening mascara. If choosing the right type is difficult, it can help to try various products before deciding. Kellner added, “Prioritize your eye shape and the condition of your lashes, but choose a product that feels comfortable to wear.”
Denno explained that applying mascara may become difficult with age as the eyelids grow thicker. In that case, it is advisable to switch to a different type of mascara.
