Generation Z Leads the Way in Innovative Education

[FamTimes reporter Lee Kyung-han] Millennials born in the 21st century, also known as Generation Z and nicknamed “game changers,” are now reaching college age.

According to research by Barnes & Noble College, millennials are active learners. Researchers found that 51% of students understood the lectures they were hearing when they participated in the learning process, while 12% said they understood lectures simply by listening.

Generation Z students merely sat in classrooms and listened to lectures. They preferred interactive classes, including discussions, to traditional teaching methods.

Because Generation Z is interested in technology, its members want hands-on experience with devices used in learning environments. They feel that using tools to learn connects academic knowledge with personal experience.

Generation Z students also learn from people around them, especially their fellow students. They tend to interact with one or more people. Technology also allows them to continue learning through widely used social networking sites.

Generation Z is career-oriented. Because its members are exposed to the world through the internet, they want to find a job that is just right for them, wherever it may be in the world.

Generation Z is indeed a catalyst for change. Its members have taken the first step toward eliminating traditional teaching methods, but experts predict that radically transforming learning tools, teaching styles, and sources of information within the education system will remain difficult.
