In an article for Apartment Therapy, Jessica Estra mentioned useful home management methods for apartment dwellers or homeowners. Below are five habits to maintain a minimalist interior feel.

1. Wash dishes immediately after use. Washing dishes right after use can create a cleaner and tidier kitchen.

2. Since mail tends to pile up quickly, sort it as soon as you receive it. Sorting mail daily is better than struggling with a massive pile of files at the end of the month. It takes about 1 to 2 minutes to check a piece of mail, and unnecessary documents can be recycled. Important documents should be scanned and saved for future reference.

3. Every night, clear everything off the kitchen counter. Leaving many items out makes the house look cluttered, so it is important to put things back in their proper places after use. You should develop the habit of putting unused items back into cabinets or drawers.

4. Be very strict about bringing new items into the home. The first principle of minimalist interior design is not decorating the house with things, but rather getting rid of unnecessary items. Since it is essential to secure extra space, you should only bring in things you truly cherish and use. All family members should avoid bringing unnecessary items into the apartment, and it is recommended to reflect for at least 24 hours before purchasing items online. For special occasions or birthday gifts, 'a “wish list” 'can be shared with family and acquaintances, and by requesting '“experiences” 'instead of material goods, you can prevent overbuying.

5. Finally, clearing out one space in your house or apartment is also a good way to achieve a minimalist interior. You can designate every Sunday or a specific cleaning day to choose one drawer, kitchen cabinet, or closet shelf to clean.
