500 Yen from Fukuoka Airport to Tenjin: Check the New Direct Bus Route Launched in April

The transportation system for moving from Fukuoka Airport, the starting point for traveling in Fukuoka, Japan, to the city center has changed. Through the latest information updated as of September 2026, you can check the new bus routes, subway payment methods, and discount pass information for family travelers.

New Tenjin Direct Bus and Bus Platform Guide by Destination

According to the Habirubi: Everything About Japan Travel video, when moving from the Fukuoka Airport International Terminal to the city, you can choose between a bus or the subway. The bus has the advantage of allowing direct travel without transfers, and a representative example is the 'Tenjin Airport Express' which began operations in April 2026. This route is boarded at Platform 8 and goes directly to the Nishitetsu Tenjin Expressway Bus Terminal without intermediate stops. The adult fare is 500 yen, which is somewhat higher than the subway, but it is convenient as you can travel all at once.

When moving to Hakata Station, you can use Nishitetsu Bus from Platform 6 or 7. This bus operates to the Hakata Station Chikushi Exit without intermediate stops. Additionally, direct buses heading to Dazaifu and LaLaport Fukuoka also operate from Platform 8, allowing you to move directly to major tourist attractions without transfers. Meanwhile, the 'HEARTS Airport Bus' has been operating from International Terminal Platform 11 since April this year. This bus passes through Hakata and Tenjin (in front of Fukuoka City Hall), and since the arrival stops differ from Nishitetsu Bus, you should choose based on your accommodation location. The fare for HEARTS Airport Bus is 600 yen for adults and 300 yen for children, and for round trips, it is 1,000 yen for adults and 500 yen for children.

Introduction of Subway Touch Payment and Discount Passes for Family Travelers

If using the subway, you take a shuttle bus from Platform 5 on the 1st floor of the International Terminal to move to the Domestic Terminal, which then connects to the subway station. Fukuoka City Subway allows credit card touch payments at all stations. However, not all cards are compatible; you can only use cards that have the Contactless symbol, which looks like a Wi-Fi mark lying on its side. If you continue to use the same card, there is a benefit where even if the daily usage amount exceeds 640 yen, it is automatically charged only up to a maximum of 640 yen.

Family travelers accompanied by children can utilize various dedicated passes. There is the 'Family Subway One-Day Pass (1,000 yen)' which can be used by up to 2 adults and an unlimited number of elementary school students, and the 'Family Pair Pass (800 yen)' used by 1 adult and 1 elementary school student. In particular, during weekends, Japanese public holidays, and vacation periods, a '100-Yen Pass' is also operated specifically for elementary school students to use all lines for one day. Among bus users, if you plan to ride Nishitetsu Bus frequently, you can consider the 6-hour or 24-hour 'Bus Free Pass' sold on my route. For this pass, one elementary school student can ride for free with each 1 adult pass, but caution is required as it does not apply to the Tenjin Airport Express route.

When using a taxi, you can take a regular taxi at boarding areas 2 and 3 on the 1st floor of the International Terminal, and for reserved taxis such as Uber or DiDi, you should board at Platform 12. Taxis are a choice worth considering in terms of cost if there are 3 to 4 people.
