Why Existing Drains and General Traps Fail to Block Odors
The most common type of floor drain has a 'water seal structure' where water collects inside to block odors. This method works by filling a cup-shaped space with water to block odors rising from above. However, the video points out the limitations of this structure. If the amount of water inside is insufficient, the water level drops as it evaporates, allowing odors from the pipes to rise through the gap. Additionally, due to the complex structure where water must hit the bottom of the cup and then rise up the sides when draining, the drainage speed is slow.
Physical traps (membrane type) used to supplement this are designed to open the entrance only when water flows down and remain closed normally. However, this method has the disadvantage of easily catching hair or foreign substances. If the lid does not close completely due to foreign substances, odors and insects enter through the gap. In the video, to compare actual drainage speeds, a test was conducted by pouring the same amount of water after installing Blue Trap and J Trap respectively. As a result of the test, it took 1 minute 27 seconds for the water to drain completely with the Blue Trap installed. On the other hand, with the J Trap installed, drainage was completed in just 40 seconds. The J Trap showed a drainage performance nearly 3 times faster than the existing method.
