Of course, children may experience separation anxiety at the prospect of being away from their parents. How should parents respond?
How to Help Your Child Attend Kindergarten
Daily routines and habits play an important role in helping children get along with their peers. Parents should therefore teach them a few things.
1. Prepare a healthy breakfast for your child and provide nutritious snacks and lunch.
2. Make sure your child remembers their parents’ names, home address, and telephone number. Also teach them to take good care of belongings labeled with their name.
3. If you do not want buttons to come off your child’s clothes while they play and interact with other children, dress them in comfortable clothes that are easy to move around in.
4. Develop a habit of reading to your child every day. Teach them new words they can learn from books, store signs, road signs, gift tags, and other labels.
5. Give children free time after school or on weekends when they have no scheduled activities. This will be the complete opposite of their structured time at kindergarten.
6. Teach your child to tell you immediately if a problem arises. This will keep them from concealing things such as bullying or social exclusion at kindergarten.
7. Make sure your child enjoys going to kindergarten. At the end of the day, ask how their day went. There is no need to tell your child every detail about problems that arise at kindergarten, and you should not speak badly about their teacher behind the teacher’s back.
8. Take pride in your child’s artwork, such as their drawings. Displaying it at home or keeping it in a separate folder is also a good idea.
9. Build your child’s confidence through praise and encouragement.
Smart parenting is as easy as A, B, C. Raising a child well requires Attitude (A), Belief (B), and Commitment (C). Keep this in mind and strive to build positive experiences together with your child.
