Kohaku Koi with Vibrant Colors and Patterns

[Fam Times reporter Jennylyn Gianan] Kohaku koi, bred as ornamental fish, feature vibrant, abstract patterns and colors. Considered aesthetically beautiful and soothing to the human eye, they are kept for ornamental purposes and regarded as the most beautiful koi.

Kohaku koi are entered in various competitions and are the highest-rated type of ornamental fish for their iconic combinations of colors and patterns.

Although the Kohaku variety is beautiful in itself, managing the water quality in its pond or tank is also important for achieving more vibrant colors and patterns.

If the koi are being raised for competitions, producing a vivid purplish-red color earns high marks.

The second color scheme, an orange-red combination, is also highly rated and therefore suitable for shows. However, it is difficult to maintain because it requires time and patience.

This color further accentuates the beauty of the vividly colored fins that judges seek.

The pattern traditionally known as “hi” can appear in various shapes and sizes.

Judges favor this pattern because, when the koi swims, it creates a kind of illusion in the water that is visually pleasing.
