SAY MY NAME MEI visits Comic World, showcasing 'Aikatsu!' Ichigo cosplay

MEI, a member of the group SAY MY NAME, visited Comic World, a Korean manga and animation festival, and revealed herself transformed into an animation character she has always liked.

According to a vlog video released on the SAY MY NAME official YouTube channel on the 17th, MEI participated in a Comic World event for the first time in her life. On this day, MEI captured the detailed preparation process, such as personally styling a wig to cosplay as the character 'Ichigo', the protagonist of the animation 'Aikatsu!', and wearing specialized lenses to express the character's signature red eyes.

"An idol that was a childhood dream" The reason why MEI chose 'Aikatsu!'

In the video, MEI explained in detail in Japanese why she chose to cosplay as Ichigo from 'Aikatsu!'. According to MEI, 'Aikatsu!' is a precious animation that she watched with her family since she was an elementary school student. MEI expressed her respect for the character, saying, "As someone who has been working hard and gaining experience with the goal of becoming an idol, it resembles my current self, aiming to be like the 15-year-old (Ichigo) who has now become someone's dream and is becoming a top idol."

Furthermore, MEI revealed that she grew her dream after watching the performances of K-pop idol seniors and went through trainee life via the United States and South Korea, and that she consistently watched 'Aikatsu!' during that process. She continued by mentioning the link between the character and her own goals, stating, "I thought I wanted to become an idol while watching Aikatsu!"

Visiting the Comic World venue and stage performance

Upon arriving at the event venue, MEI enjoyed encountering various cosplay characters. In the video, MEI showed herself enjoying the festival by meeting various character cosplayers to take photos and purchasing goods of characters she likes. In particular, MEI communicated with fans by mentioning the characters she likes, which she had previously kept secret.

At the event site, MEI wore the prepared cosplay costume and went up on stage to perform. While on stage, MEI greeted the audience and shared her thoughts, saying, "I worried about whether it would be okay to cosplay and stand on stage as an idol, but I am happy because so many people welcomed me."
