Lee Chang-sub Confesses That His Voice Condition Was at Its Worst Due to Vocal Cord Polyps During the Recording of 'Heavenly Fate'

BTOB's Lee Chang-sub revealed the behind-the-scenes story of having to proceed with the recording of 'Heavenly Fate' even though his voice condition was very poor due to vocal cord polyps in the past.

In the 'Himself Appearing' video released on the 15th on the YouTube channel '1theK Originals', Lee Chang-sub shared various episodes related to his musical life. In this video, Lee Chang-sub recalled the situation during the recording of his recently released song 'Heavenly Fate' and explained that his voice condition was at its worst at the time due to vocal cord polyps.

Vocal Cord Polyps and 'Heavenly Fate' Recording Behind-the-Scenes

Lee Chang-sub mentioned the vocal cord polyp issue as the reason why his voice might feel rough during the recording of 'Heavenly Fate'. In the video, he said, "What would I have done if I hadn't met this song," explaining that at the time of recording, he was already in a state that required rest due to polyps, but he could not cancel his schedule. He conveyed the desperate situation at the time, saying, "The polyps were severe, but I scraped out even my soul to record it for the last time."

He also mentioned his past experience of having difficulty singing due to vocal cord polyps. Lee Chang-sub stated that there was a period when singing itself was impossible because blisters covering his entire vocal cords formed, and at that time, he was diagnosed by a doctor to refrain from using his voice. He shared that his condition has improved to the point where he is mentioned as a case of natural healing without procedures through a recent ENT examination.

'Next-Generation Balladeer' Evaluation and Musical Growth

Regarding being evaluated as a 'next-generation balladeer' by Yoon Jong Shin, Lee Chang-sub showed a humble attitude, saying it was "excessive praise." Yoon Jong Shin had previously designated him as a next-generation balladeer, mentioning after listening to Lee Chang-sub's recording, "I like the feeling that his own unique rawness breaks through all techniques so much that I want to produce him again." In response, Lee Chang-sub replied, "I will become a singer who constantly grows to live up to the words 'next-generation balladeer'."

Furthermore, he explained his changed direction as a vocalist, moving past the days when he struggled with high notes to now "trying to find a more pleasant sound." From his experience winning the grand prize at the Suwon Song Festival before his debut to graduating from the practical music department of Howon University, his steady process toward music was captured in the video.

Lee Chang-sub showed friendliness by introducing an anecdote where residents call him the 'Yeongtong Danjong' in relation to his residence, Yeongtong District, Suwon, Gyeonggi Province. He also mentioned that he has met a new heyday through the variety program 'Changing Majors' and revealed his connection with PD Go Dong-han, who planned the program.
