Tips for Choosing Clothes for Summer
Tips for selecting summer clothing, including UV protection, fabric choices like linen and cotton, and color considerations for heat management.
[FamTimes Reporter Jennylyn Gianan] During the hot and humid summer, many people enjoy wearing shorts, T-shirts, and other lightweight clothing. While comfort is important when going out, it is only natural to choose clothes that showcase one's fashion sense.
Recently, major clothing brands have begun creating garments that can block ultraviolet rays by using fabrics with a high Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF).
It is advisable to choose lightweight, breathable clothing that also offers UV protection.
One piece of classic fashion advice is to avoid dark-colored clothing on hot days. Unless the clothing is breathable and provides protection from sunlight, light colors are generally cooler because they reflect sunlight, whereas black absorbs rays and makes you hotter.
For formal events or office wear, it is not always possible to choose clothing solely for comfort, especially when there is a dress code. However, lightweight fabrics can be selected to minimize discomfort caused by the heat.
According to Katie Klein Ellis, owner of Bottega Apparel, clothing made from lightweight materials such as cotton, linen, and rayon is a good choice. By contrast, soft silk fabrics should be avoided, especially when heavy sweating is likely.
Footwear is also important.
